Chinese Proficiency Test for International & Overseas Chinese Students
Objective This serves as the basis for class placement in Chinese courses, ensuring that overseas Chinese students of different proficiency levels can attend appropriate classes.

Exam Method
  • Online Test
  • Announcement of Test Schedule and information will be sent to students’ personal NTU mailbox (B13xxxxxx@ntu.edu.tw) on August 8th, 2024.
  • Those who do not take the online test will not be allowed to take “College Chinese” 
Exemption Application Better Chinese Proficiency:
Apply for exemption with the "TOCFL Level 3 listening, reading, writing tests certificate and transcript," and directly enter the "College Chinese: Primary Level" course
Lower Chinese Proficiency:
Students whose Chinese level is around or under TOCFL level 2 (CEFR level A2) can register to skip the Chinese proficiency test for the current year. They will be treated as if they did not pass the test and will be directly placed in the "General Chinese Language Course" , which requires taking the placement test on August 31. Class Placement Proficiency from highest to lowest:
  1. University Chinese (including "University Chinese: Literature Appreciation and Writing (I)/(II)," "University Chinese: Cultural Thought and Writing (I)/(II)," and "University Chinese: Reading and Writing (I)/(II)," with a study period of one semester)
  2. College Chinese: Advanced Level
  3. College Chinese: Middle Level
  4. College Chinese: Primary Level
  5. General Chinese Language Course
Test Content Multiple-choice reading questions + short essay writing (100-200 words), please answer in Traditional Chinese.
English Proficiency Test for International & Overseas Chinese Students
Objective This serves as the basis for class placement in Freshman English courses, ensuring that overseas Chinese students of different proficiency levels can attend appropriate classes.
Target
  • All freshmen, except those in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures
  • Students who plan to take other foreign language courses instead of Freshman English to obtain the required 6 English/Foreign Language credits can choose not to take the English Proficiency Test.)

Apply for waiving Freshman English If the scores meet the standards set by the Freshman English Committee, you can apply for the e Basic Subject Waivers Certification Exam (Freshman English subject) before August 16.
