Important Information for Overseas Chinese Freshmen -National Health Insurance/Medical Insurance for the 113th Academic Year

National Health Insurance
1. After receiving your Taiwan Residence Permit, please fill out the following form immediately.
[Application for Overseas Chinese Students’ NHI Card]
https://forms.gle/TBsiKsdJmgK7zw48A
If you already have an NHI card or hold a Republic of China (ROC) ID card, please join the insurance through your family or apply for it at the NHI office. There is no need to fill out this form.

2. You will be eligible to join the NHI six months after the date of entry to Taiwan with a residence visa (if you have continuously resided for 6 months, or if you have left Taiwan once for no more than 30 days, the actual period of stay in Taiwan, after deducting the days of absence, must add up to 6 months). If you did not enter with a residence visa, the eligibility starts from the date you obtained a residence permit in Taiwan. For those with a Taiwan ID card, eligibility starts from the date of household registration. Students who are insured under their parents should pay attention to the timing of adding the insurance.

3. Based on the entry and exit records from the Immigration Office, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Division will check whether you have resided in Taiwan for 6 months (you may leave once but for no more than 30 days). Once you meet the eligibility for NHI, we will apply for your NHI card on your behalf with the NHI office. If the rules are not followed to qualify for NHI, you will need to wait another 6 months! Since each students entry and exit times vary, the time to receive the NHI card will also differ.

4. All NHI cards will be sent to the Overseas Chinese Affairs Division, and you will be notified via email when it is ready for collection.

5. Each semester, the university will collect 6 months of NHI fees in advance (for some students, 5 months are collected during the first semester of the first year). Any overpaid premiums will be refunded at the end of the semester, and you will be notified via email.
