[Event]Ministry of Environment “2026 International Environmental Issues and Education Workshop” Now Open for Registration
The Ministry of Environment is organising the 2026 International Environmental Issues and Education Workshop under the theme “Empowering Youth for Sustainable Development.” Based on Taiwan’s environmental education and environmental action experience, the workshop aims to help young participants understand key environmental issues in the Asia-Pacific region and Taiwan, and explore practical environmental action plans that may be applied in their home countries. The theme of this year’s workshop is “The Perfect Blend: Coffee Industry’s Circular Chain.” Using the coffee industry as a starting point, the programme will explore issues related to water resources, food waste management, circular economy, and resource reuse. Participants will learn about the water footprint behind coffee production, as well as the issue of coffee grounds generated by large-scale coffee consumption in Taiwan. Through lectures, field visits, group discussions, and final presentations, the workshop will introduce how Taiwan combines regulatory adjustment, corporate participation, convenience store reverse logistics systems, and plant-based residue sustainable management platforms to transform coffee grounds into high-value products such as functional textiles and cosmetics, demonstrating Taiwan’s practical experience in resource circulation and net-zero transition. The programme and field learning activities will take place at ComeTrue Coffee Taichung Shenji Store and Changhua Guocun Coffee Farm operated by V-Life Social Enterprise Co., Ltd. The workshop is designed around three core concepts: inspiration, creation, and practice. The programme includes lectures on environmental education and circular economy, coffee industry and water resource issues, coffee grounds recycling management and industrial chain connections, field visits, case sharing on food waste treatment and circular economy practices in different countries, group discussions, and final presentations. The objectives of the programme are to:
(1) Understand important environmental issues in the Asia-Pacific region and Taiwan in recent years.
(2) Learn about the development of environmental education in the Asia-Pacific region and Taiwan.
(3) Explore innovative strategies for environmental action in Taiwan.
(4) Refer to local environmental action and education programmes in Taiwan and share practices that may be applied in participants’ home countries.
(5) Experience environmental education sites or community-based environmental action programmes in Taiwan. Eligibility and Target Participants
This programme primarily recruits students from Asia-Pacific countries who are currently studying at universities or colleges in Taiwan. Students from other countries, as well as local students and young people in Taiwan who are interested in environmental education, may also apply; however, they are considered secondary target participants. Priority will be given to applicants who have not previously participated in this programme. After the registration deadline, the organiser will review applicants’ eligibility and submitted information, and will select participants based on the actual registration status. Submission of an application does not guarantee admission. Final admission results are subject to the organiser’s announcement and email notification. Eligible applicants include:
(1) International students currently studying at universities or colleges in Taiwan in accordance with the Ministry of Education’s Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan.
(2) Finalists of the Ministry of Environment’s Environmental Youth Leaders programme, students from environment-related departments, or local university and college students, including master’s and doctoral students, who are interested in environmental education. Applicants in this category must provide English proficiency test documents.
(3) Young professionals in the field of environmental education in Taiwan. Applicants in this category must provide English proficiency test documents. Number of Participants
The programme is expected to admit 30 international students and 5 local students or young professionals in the field of environmental education, for a total of 35 participants. A waiting list may be arranged depending on the actual registration status. Registration Method and Period

(3) Admission announcement: The admission list will be announced on the Global Environmental Education Partnership Asia-Pacific Regional Center website (https://geepaprc.org/en) within five working days after the registration deadline. Admission notices will also be sent by email. Programme Fees and Confirmation Deposit
Programme fees, meals, accommodation, and shuttle transportation during the workshop will be covered by the organiser. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and accommodation expenses before arriving at the shuttle meeting point. Admitted participants must pay a confirmation deposit of NT$1,000 by the deadline stated in the admission notice.The deposit will be refunded in cash on the final day of the programme to participants who complete the full programme.
Those who fail to pay the deposit by the designated deadline will have their registration cancelled. The deposit will not be refunded to those who do not attend or do not complete the full programme. If admitted participants are unable to attend, they must notify the organiser by Monday, 13 July 2026, so that applicants on the waiting list may be admitted. A bank transfer handling fee of NT$30 will be deducted when the deposit is refunded. The deposit will not be refunded for cancellations made after the deadline. Important Notes

Notes
(1) Participants are advised to collect and read materials related to food waste treatment and circular economy before the workshop in order to prepare for discussions.
(2) Meals will be provided during the programme. Please indicate your dietary needs when registering, and bring your own reusable cup and utensils.
(3) The hotel will only provide towels. Disposable amenities will not be provided. Please bring your own toiletries.
(4) To ensure programme quality and support energy conservation and carbon reduction, participants are encouraged to take the shuttle bus together from the designated meeting point.
(5) Applicants are requested to provide their Line ID in the registration form in order to join the workshop group.
(6) In the event of a typhoon or other force majeure circumstances, if the government announces the suspension of work or classes, the organiser may postpone or cancel the programme. Any programme changes will be announced by email and Line.
(7) The organiser reserves the right to adjust the programme format and content.
