[Event Information] 2026“Point System (Scoring Criteria) & Related Policies Seminar for Overseas Chinese Students to Work in Taiwan”and “The Canaan Project & NTU Alums Sharing for Overseas Chinese Students to Work in Taiwan”

The amendments to the Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals, promoted by the National Development Council, officially came into effect on January 1, 2026.

Key revisions include more flexible regulations for overseas Chinese and international students who have obtained an associate degree or higher in Taiwan. Eligible graduates may apply for an extension of stay for up to two years in total, during which they may work freely or take part-time employment without requiring an employer to apply for a work permit on their behalf. In addition, individuals who have obtained a degree in Taiwan may count one to three years of their residency period toward the requirement for permanent residency applications.

Furthermore, foreign nationals who have obtained a bachelor’s degree or higher within the past five years from a university listed among the Ministry of Education’s Top 200 global universities may apply directly to the Ministry of Labor for an individual work permit to engage in professional work in Taiwan, eliminating the need for employer sponsorship and simplifying the application process (within two years of eligibility).

National Taiwan University is ranked among the world’s Top 200 universities. NTU graduates who choose to apply for an individual work permit may also count this period toward the residency requirement for permanent residency applications.

As these new measures are now in effect, students are encouraged to review and update their plans for working in Taiwan after graduation.

Rather than piecing together fragmented information on your own, this is an opportunity to gain a clear understanding of the policy framework and practical experiences in one setting. The Overseas Compatriot and Mainland Chinese Students Advising Division has therefore organized two sessions of the “2026 Employment in Taiwan After Graduation Series”, featuring the latest policy briefings from government agencies alongside experience sharing by NTU alumni. These sessions aim to help students understand key regulations, application procedures, and practical pathways for career development in Taiwan.

Students are encouraged to prepare questions in advance and make full use of the on-site discussion opportunities. For additional information related to these regulatory amendments, please refer to the dedicated information portal, where government agencies have provided briefing materials on work permit regulations, the applicability of the Labor Pension system, residency, and permanent residency requirements:
