Overseas Chinese Student Life Counseling and Care, Strengthening Student Safety Protection Education

Because overseas Chinese students come to Taiwan far from their hometowns without the presence of family or friends, school faculty must provide extra care and guidance in both academics and daily life. We aim to help these students establish good habits and a correct understanding of the law to ensure they can study peacefully and adapt smoothly to life in Taiwan. To this end, we will promote the following items, strengthen education on student safety protection, develop concepts of safety response, and implement them thoroughly:

1. As summer approaches and the opportunities for overseas Chinese students to participate in water activities increase, please especially remind them to be aware of water safety and to choose safe bodies of water to avoid any tragic drowning incidents.
2. With the frequent occurrence of internet scams, to safeguard the personal safety of overseas Chinese students, please promote anti-fraud awareness among them to prevent them from being scammed or inadvertently breaking the law.
3. Drinking alcohol can affect the physical and mental development of young students and violate safety norms related to internships, potentially endangering their lives. To protect overseas Chinese students from the harms of alcohol, please encourage them to establish good living habits and develop positive interests that benefit their mental and physical health.
4. Since overseas Chinese students frequently travel for study and work-study internships, to prevent traffic accidents, please promote road safety and legal education to foster correct road-using concepts.
5. Overseas Chinese students often face adaptation challenges due to cultural differences and language barriers, and friction and conflicts can arise in a group setting as students come from various countries. Please remind them that if they experience misunderstandings or provocative behaviors from peers or locals, they should immediately inform faculty and seek police assistance to avoid confrontations and ensure their safety and property.

In case of any emergency involving overseas Chinese students, please contact our office immediately, and we will promptly notify the Overseas Community Affairs Council.
