[Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission Reminder] Preventing the Invasion of African Swine Fever and Other Foreign Animal Transmissible Diseases
According to the statistics from the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine under the Ministry of Agriculture, there has been a recent increase in cases of animal quarantine violations. These include illegal imports from Thailand through parcels containing fried pork skin, pork floss products, and pork sausages, as well as illicit imports from Mainland China via express delivery of dog and cat food and meat-containing processed foods. Therefore, all units are requested to assist in the promotion of the following directive: Foreign nationals coming to Taiwan should not import animal quarantine items via express delivery or parcel post to prevent the invasion of major foreign animal transmissible diseases such as African Swine Fever, Foot and Mouth Disease, Lumpy Skin Disease, and Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza.
Violators of these regulations, especially those found carrying pork products from regions affected by African Swine Fever within the last three years, or those who have mailed pork products from African Swine Fever affected areas to Taiwan, will face penalties. A fine of NT$200,000 will be imposed for the first offense, and for subsequent offenses, the fine will be NT$1,000,000. Suppose the violators do not have residency status and cannot pay the NT$200,000 fine on the spot. In that case, the regional office of the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine under the Ministry of Agriculture will transfer the case to the Immigration Department of the Ministry of the Interior to deny entry.
